If Nissan wasn't going to figure out how to create a remote-charging app for owners of Leaf electric vehicles, someone else was sure to do it.

In this case, the result is a free, third-party app called LeafLink. While Nissan's official Carwings app lets folks set charging times from inside the car, LeafLink lets people do it remotely, in addition to pre-setting climate controls and other goodies, according to Green Car Reports. For a $9.99 upgrade, LeafLink lets Leaf owners program a future charging time, with the information being stored on a secure server.

Those captivated by such possibilities can check out the LeafLink app page here.

Nissan previews production steer-by-wire system

With as far electric power assist steering (EPAS) has come in recent years, it was only a matter of time before an automaker came up with a fully electric steering system. Nissan has developed such a system that replaces the mechanical steering linkage of today's cars with a "wired" steering column that uses drivers inputs to steer the front wheels via electronic controllers, and this type of system could be found on Infiniti models within the next year.

This type of system could be found on Infiniti models within the next year.
As bad as the feedback is on some current EPAS cars, we're a little skeptical about how such a system would feel, but Nissan says that not only will feedback be more direct, it will also be adjustable. Nissan's independent control steering technology will allow drivers to choose between "Sport" and "Standard" modes depending on what type of roads and driving condition they face. An added benefit of this system is that the steering wheel will be completely isolated from the rest of the steering system to reduce road vibrations felt by the driver.

In the event of power loss, there is a clutch that can engage a backup mechanical link to allow the driver to control the front wheels.
This system also uses a camera to help keep the car driving in a straight line, meaning that drivers won't have to make constant small corrections, which Nissan says will reduce driver fatigue, and it can also auto correct in the event of crosswinds. As a safety precaution, Nissan's new steering system uses three redundant engine controllers to prevent any loss of steering, but in the event that the car loses total power, there is a clutch that can engage a backup mechanical link to allow the driver to control the front wheels.

Nissan is also working on an autonomous emergency steering system that seems to operate in the same vain as auto brake in some newer cars. If the car detects a possible collision, it will initially warn the driver with an audible tone and display. If this is ignored, it will then proceed to auto brake in an attempt to slow the car down. If a collision is still imminent, the car would then automatically swerve to avoid an accident. There are also sensors that can detect if a car is next to or coming head on with the vehicle to prevent an even worse collision.

Scroll down for Nissan's press releases on this new technology.

The Future: Today in Norway

OSLO, Norway – Nissan's Future: Today exhibition opened this week in the Norwegian capital, with a gathering of Nissan LEAF owners due in the city's main square on Friday night for a special event.
Check out the video for a behind-the-scenes look at the event.

Alex Buncombe: Nissan's Secret Weapon

ROLLE, Switzerland – Since its formation in 2008, Nissan's GT Academy has grown into one of the best driver selection and development programs in the world. The stakes are raised each year making the competition harder and making sure that only the best talent rises to the top.
Something that has remained constant since 2008 is the involvement of RJN Motorsport and Alex Buncombe, who has been each of the graduate's first professional team mate.  It was 'Al' who partnered Lucas Ordonez in 2009 and 2010 and Jordan Tresson in 2011 and it is Al who has raced the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 so strongly in its development season with Jann Mardenborough in this year's British GT Championship.
Next week Al will be continuing his official Nissan Europe driver role when he races the Greaves Motorsport Zytek-Nissan LMP2 at one of the best sportscar races in America: Petit Le Mans.
Nissan's Darren Cox has seen Al work quietly alongside the GT Academy graduates and believes it is the turn of the man from Somerset to step into the spotlight.
"GT Academy is a success story," he commented. "The doubters have long been proved wrong as we have continued to turn out truly talented racing drivers through the GT Academy selection process and the following driver development program.  All of our graduates have made the grade and become fully-fledged racing drivers. We're not running a nursery though.  Failure to perform at any stage will be treated in the same way as in any top competition and the drivers all know this.
"Alex Buncombe's role in the GT Academy family is to set the benchmark for each of the graduates when they embark on their racing careers," Cox continued. "His job is to calmly help them realize what steps they need to genuinely become a professional driver after the bubble of Race Camp, the initial phase of the Driver Development and the Dubai 24 hours. Being alongside Al and being looked after by Bob Neville and the team from RJN Motorsport is the perfect environment for these fresh new talents. There are no egos, just racers. Al is often overlooked when the plaudits are given out. I am happy to give him this drive and am confident he will do a solid job. His lack of seat time will mean he will be playing a supporting role – something he is used to doing of course – but sometimes it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for!  His peerless performances and multiple wins in historics this year are a little hidden, but show what a versatile a professional driver he has become."
Q&A with Alex Buncombe
What did you think when you got the call up to race at Petit Le Mans?
"One word: amazing! I had to pinch myself. I am so pleased to get this fantastic opportunity.  This will be my first time at Road Atlanta and the first time I have raced an LMP car for eight years so I can't wait.  I know Tom (Kimber-Smith) as we both raced in the 'Champions' Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 in Dubai earlier this year and I'm sure I'll get to know everyone else very quickly."
What are your expectations for the race?
"I really want to do a good job for Nissan and for Greaves. I need to learn the car and the circuit but you never know what is going to happen in endurance races. A podium finish in LMP2 would be awesome."
This year you have taken wins at the Monaco Historic, Le Mans Classic and Goodwood Revival in a Jaguar C-Type, you are the 2012 E-Type Challenge Champion and you won the British GT race at Brands Hatch in the Nissan GT-R.  What are the chances of adding a win at a modern day classic track like Road Atlanta?
"The Greaves Zytek Nissan is a very competitive car and we have a great driver line up. If we have a clean race with no problems who knows where we might end up."
Your relationship with Nissan goes back a number of years. When did you first get involved?
"My first race for RJN and Bob Neville was the 2007 GT4 race at Spa where I had two fantastic second place finishes. We then had many race wins from there on and the rest they say is history."
What is your racing background, prior to joining RJN Motorsport?
"My racing career before 2007 with RJN was very mixed. I did Formula Renault in 2001, 2002 and 2003, some of which were not complete seasons because of budget problems. I really saw myself as a GT driver though and in 2005 I competed in the first round of the Vodaphone Maserati Trofeo cup at Monza where I won the one hour race by 35 seconds."
As the first team mate to the first GT Academy winner, Lucas Ordonez, what did you really think of it all back then?
"I must confess I was a little worried about Lucas in 2009 with it being the first year of GT Academy. Could he really step from the virtual world to the real racing world? After the first race though my feelings changed. These guys are fast! I can't wait to see Lucas race Nissan DeltaWing at Road Atlanta. He did this race last year and has good experience of the circuit and the car and I think he will do a great job."

Nissan Announces U.S. Pricing for 2013 Quest

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today announced U.S. pricing for the 2013 Nissan Quest minivan, which is on sale now at Nissan dealers nationwide.  The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices* (MSRP) for the innovation-packed 2013 Nissan Quest are reduced $1,310 USD on the Quest SV and $980 USD on the Quest SL, making Quest more competitive than ever.  Pricing for the Quest S remains unchanged, while the Quest LE with added equipment increases just $290 USD.
Each of the four well-equipped Quest models comes with a standard 260-horsepower 3.5-liter 24-valve DOHC V6 engine and Nissan's advanced Xtronic CVT® transmission.
Enhancements for 2013 include the addition of standard Around View® Monitor on LE models, which utilizes four small superwide-angle cameras mounted on the front, side and rear of the vehicle to provide a virtual 360° view of objects around the vehicle, helping to maneuver it into tight spots.  The DVD Entertainment System is now available on SV and SL models (it remains standard on Quest LE and was previously offered as an option on SL).
Key available features include one-touch power-sliding doors, fold-flat 2nd and 3rd row seats, Advanced Climate Control System, standard permanent hidden storage and standard SiriusXM Satellite Radio (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately).
Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices* (MSRP) for the 2013 Nissan Quest include:

Quest 3.5 S
$25,990 USD
Quest 3.5 SV
$29,740 USD
Quest 3.5 SL
$33,520 USD
Quest 3.5 LE
$42,640 USD

About the 2013 Nissan Quest
From its bold styling with full surround glass to its extensive list of family friendly innovations, the 2013 Nissan Quest "gets" parenting better than any other minivan.  With one-touch power-sliding doors, quick release fold-flat 2nd and 3rd row seats, Advanced Climate Control System and an always-available rear storage well, Quest provides the innovation to help make the impossible possible on a daily basis.
Quest's sophisticated, modern exterior combines fluid sculptural elements with a dynamic mass and crafted details to provide a fresh take on minivan design.  In front, the bold bumper and horizontal grille and headlights blend into the side character line.  The bold door sections and surfaces flow seamlessly into the rear "boomerang" taillights and tailgate finisher, helping create a look as if Quest was carved from one solid piece of sculptor's stone.
Also, the sliding door step-in height is several inches lower than competitive minivans, which is helpful for small children or older adults getting into the 2nd or 3rd rows.  To assist entry further, the Quest's 2nd row features a standard walk-in device for easier access to the 3rd row.  A one-touch unlock/open power rear liftgate is standard on Quest SL and LE models.  Third row power return seatbacks are standard on Quest LE.
All 2013 Quest models feature a standard VQ-series 3.5-liter DOHC V6 rated at 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, and an advanced Xtronic CVT® transmission that provides a smooth driving experience.  Fuel economy is estimated at 19 mpg City/25 mpg Highway.  Quest also features 4-wheel independent suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes and vehicle-speed-sensitive power steering.
Standard features include Nissan Intelligent Key® and optional one-touch power-sliding doors, which unlock and open the side door with the simple touch of a button; quick-release fold-flat 2nd and 3rd row seats – the 3rd row folds forward unlike any other minivan, so there is no stowing required; available Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster® air purifier and Grape Polyphenol Filter, which works three ways to help reduce allergens and unwanted odors within the Quest cabin; and a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with a segment-first Easy Fill Tire Alert that lets owners know when the ideal inflation is reached with a beep of the horn.
As part of Nissan's "Safety Shield" concept, Quest incorporates a number of advanced safety systems, including the Blind Spot Warning (BSW) system, which is standard on Quest LE.  BSW helps alert the driver by illuminating an indicator light in the outside mirror if another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area.  If the driver then engages the turn signal, the indicator flashes and an audible alert sounds.

Separating Fact from Fiction: The Truth About Electric Vehicles from the Renault-Nissan Alliance

Separating Fact from Fiction: The Truth About Electric Vehicles from the Renault-Nissan Alliance

PARIS - Some people have funny ideas. On the eve of the Paris Motor Show we asked a number of Parisians a few questions about electric vehicles. Their answers varied from the almost right to the completely wrong!

We decided the best way to get to the truth was to ask the experts. We've lined up Thomas Orsini and Olivier Paturet, electric vehicle specialists at Renault and Nissan respectively, to explode a few of the myths surrounding EVs.
We asked people when they thought we'd be able to buy an electric vehicle. Watch the video below to see whether electric vehicles are still science fact or whether in fact the future is here, now.

Nissan Terra Concept takes zero emissions off road

Nissan Terra Concept - live at 2012 Paris Motor Show reveal

Nissan already has the Xterra, but from the looks of it, its new Paris Motor Show concept vehicle could be called the eTerra. In reality, Nissan's new off-road-ready, fuel cell concept is known simply as the Terra Concept, and while it sounds like there are no plans to build such a vehicle just yet, it doesn't hurt to dream.

The Terra Concept has a style that instantly reminds us of the Juke and of the 2009 Qazana concept utility that previewed it – but its tall stance shows that it means business on the trail. As an electric four-wheel-drive vehicle, the Terra uses three separate motors, with the front wheels being driven by the same system currently used in the Nissan Leaf and the rear wheels driven by two motors powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. The benefit of such a system means that in everyday driving, the front wheels can do most of the work, and when added traction is needed, the rear motors can kick in to power through whatever terrain it comes across.

In terms of the interior, the TeRRa Concept looks the part with a futuristic cabin, and having the motors independently mounted at the front and rear means that designers have been able to fit a flat load floor for improved cargo potential.

Nissan points out that hydrogen fuel cell stacks cost far less than they did just seven years ago, and it sounds like the only thing limiting Nissan from having a fuel-cell vehicle right now is the lack of a proper hydrogen fuel infrastructure. And even that might not be a limitation – we already know that Nissan is working on delivering a fuel-cell vehicle vehicle by 2015.

The best part of an electric fuel-cell off-road vehicle like the Terra Concept hints at is that, as a zero-emission vehicle, that sounds like the ultimate way to "Tread Lightly" to us.

Check out our live images of the Terra Concept on display in Paris, and scroll down for Nissan's official press release.

Nissan’s TeRRA: A zero emission SUV

THE Nissan TeRRA SUV concept, to be unveiled on September 27 at the Paris Motor Show, combines two outstanding Nissan strengths –– sport utility vehicles (SUV) and electric vehicles (EV) –– in a vehicle that is equally in its element off-road or gliding silently through the city.
Report by Autoworld
With an innovative 4×4 fuel-cell electric powertrain and an athletic exterior that has presence beyond its compact dimensions, TeRRA takes sustainable motoring into exciting new territory.

Building on Nissan’s success with crossovers like the Juke and Qashqai, and its EV success with the Leaf, the TeRRA shows that Nissan’s zero-emission expertise encompasses fuel cells too. It is designed as a functional and flexible choice for tomorrow’s youthful, “always on” consumers, bringing with it eco-friendliness along with a secure driving feel under any road conditions.

“Our challenge was to take Nissan’s strength in SUVs and crossovers forward into the zero-emissions era, fuel cells being our new frontier in zero emission mobility,” said Francois Bancon, Nissan’s division general manager of product strategy and planning.

Although TeRRA is presented as a design concept, not a technical exhibit, its proposed 4×4 fuel cell electric powertrain is far from imaginary. Powering the front wheels is the electric propulsion system currently featured in the Nissan Leaf. In each back wheel, providing all-wheel power as needed, is an in-wheel electric motor. As no drive shafts are required to power the rear wheels, there is no hump in the floor or on the underbody. This allows for the flat boot floor and the underside bodypan.

Under the bonnet is ample space for Nissan’s hydrogen fuel cell stack: a flat, highly compact unit that features world-leading power density of 2,5kW/L. The latest in a series of Nissan fuel cells since 1996, the stack costs just one-sixth of its 2005 predecessor as the need for expensive precious metals has been slashed to one-quarter of the previous level.

TeRRA is purely a concept car, but it signals that Nissan is ready to mass-produce fuel cell electric vehicles whenever hydrogen becomes widely available.

Leaf owners challenge Nissan on "we don't have a battery problem" - Topix

Things appear to be heating up in the desert. Some Nissan Leaf owners aren't buying the automaker's claim that suspected loss of battery capacity stems from issues related to the car's display readings and not fundamental battery issues.

FACELIFTED 370Z: Simpler, more aggressive grille and new alloy wheels are part of the redesign.
Nissan has revealed its mildly updated 370Z sports car at the Chicago Auto Show.

It goes on sale in the United States in June as a 2013 model.

It has a revamped front bumper with vertical LED daytime running lights and a simpler intake grille, and a red reflector to the rear transom that replaces the previous black panel.

The car rides on newly designed 18-inch wheels, with the Sport models gaining fresh 19-inch items, as well as red brake calipers, and Euro-tuned shock absorbers.

There are new colours, but the engine and gearbox are the same.

Nissan idiot-proofs tyre inflation

Video Link: http://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/7006302/Nissan-idiot-proofs-tyre-inflation

Nissan develops a system that honks the cars horn when the tyres are filled to the correct pressure.

Nissan has developed a new tyre pressure system that beeps the car's horn to help you fill its tyres to the correct pressure.

The "Easy Fill Tyre Alert" system works in conjunction with an on-board tyre pressure monitoring system that keeps constant watch on the amount of air in your tyres via a series of sensors. When one tyre loses pressure, the driver is shown via an image on the instrument cluster.

When the owner pumps up the tyres, the car – in this case the mid-size Altima sedan due in 2013 – will tell them when the tyre is inflating by flashing the blinkers, and then honk the horn when they reach the right level.

"It's one of those simple slap your forehead moments as to why someone has not thought of it before," says Vishnu Jayamohan of Nissan America's product planning and advanced strategy division.

The technology is already available on the off-road focused Patrol four-wheel-drive and Nissan Australia spokesman Jeff Fisher says it would be a welcome addition on any Australian-delivered models.

"We're looking at final pricing on that feature on Patrol," Fisher says. "It's gone down quite well with customers in the Middle East [where the Patrol has been on sale for some time]."

Fisher says the fact it's now available on the upcoming Altima sedan in the US could mean it will be a standard fitment for that car when it goes on sale Down Under.

"It's a natural trickle-down technology," Fisher says. " We're some way off final specifications for the Altima yet – that will be decided in the next couple of months," he says.

Incorrectly inflated tyres can make your car use more fuel, can increase tread wear and can affect handling and safety.

Australia's NRMA Motoring and Services vehicle safety expert Jack Haley told Drive that research conducted by the organisation found 90 per cent of motorists were driving on incorrectly inflated tyres.
In the US tyre pressure monitoring systems are mandatory. Some car makers, including Renault and Volkswagen, already offer cars with standard tyre pressure monitoring systems.

Tyre manufacturer Hankook has been vocal in its desire for tyre pressure monitoring systems to be made standard across all cars. Rival rubber seller Goodyear is working on a tyre that keeps itself inflated to the right pressure.

0-340kmh in Nissan GT-R

An Alpha 12 Nissan GT-R from AMS Performance, originally a Nissan GT-R, is driven on the runway of the Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport in Oscoda.
Washington Post

RUNWAY RUN: An Alpha 12 Nissan GT-R from AMS Performance, originally a Nissan GT-R, is driven on the runway of the Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport in Oscoda.

There's no reason to drive an automobile at 200 miles per hour (322kmh). No appointment is so important, no traffic cop that lenient. Few cars are even capable of it.

Imagine, though, that you're idling in a 1500 horsepower (1119kW) car at the start of an airport runway roughly 3km long. And you're cleared for takeoff. Wouldn't you want to break the 200 mph barrier?
As an automobile critic, I have an unusual occupation. So this is why I actually find myself piloting a heavily-customised Nissan GT-R, dubbed the Alpha 12.

Fifteen hundred horsepower is a ludicrous amount of power, but I'm on a decommissioned US Air Force runway in northern Michigan that once hosted B-52 bombers. It's wide and long enough for the task.
The Nissan GT-R already qualifies as a supercar. A 2012 model in New Zealand will set you back $189,000 and it delivers 404kW, hitting 100kmh in a claimed 2.9 seconds. That's enough power, right? Not for customers of AMS Performance, a West Chicago, Illinois-based tuning company.

The 30-employee outfit has been around for more than a decade, catering to a ''mine is bigger than yours,'' demographic, where more power is always better.

AMS specialises in ''Alpha'' performance packages for the GT-R, rebuilding the V6 engine with sturdier parts, bigger turbo chargers, special exhausts and reinforced transmissions. Light modifications in the US start at about US$6000 (NZ$7600). The Alpha 12 package costs about $100,000 (NZ$126,600). For that, you get a claimed 820kW with regular unleaded and 1119kW with 116-octane race fuel.

The company says you can hit 100kmh in 2.4 seconds and the machine will cover a quarter mile in 8.97 seconds.

My goals today are twofold. I want to see how ''real'' the Alpha is, and I hope to top my personal speed record of 200 mph, achieved on a runway in a Lamborghini Gallardo nearly four years ago. I'd prefer not to kill myself.

This is just a practice run, however, to get a feel for the Alpha's power. AMS sales manager Eric Gaudi is riding shotgun. When I ask if he'd like to accompany me later on my top-speed run, he fires back, ''Not a chance.''

I roll onto the gas carefully, clicking through the gears well before the red line. The huge twin turbos quickly spool to capacity, sucking in massive gulps of air, and then expelling them harshly through the waste gates. It sounds like a jet engine.

We streak down the runway, faster and faster. I've got eyes only for the shift points on the tachometer and the tarmac in front of me. Gaudi is watching a special GPS device called a VBOX, more accurate than the speedometer, which tends to be significantly off at high speeds.

I slow down well before the runway's halfway mark. Gaudi points to the VBOX and says, simply, ''199''.Oh, man. I wasn't even trying.

Rolling back to our staging area on the side of the runway, I find the car drives easily: It's very controllable and not at all scary.

Gaudi's team adds race fuel to the tank. I pull back onto the runway, all alone now.
Accelerating toward and beyond 200 mph is akin to being at Mount Everest's so-called ''death zone.'' If any little thing goes awry the situation can quickly turn critical. A strong cross wind, a poorly timed sneeze or, my worst fear, a blown tyre, and the car's straight-line trajectory could turn into an extended barrel roll.
The faster you go, the more air the car has to displace. Past 290kmh it becomes a dense wall. The car becomes unstable, with air channelling underneath, trying to lift it skyward.

The AMS engineers estimate that the Alpha 12 is mechanically capable of hitting 383kmh. It has no roll cage or specialty safety equipment and I'm not wearing a helmet. It's basically a street-legal car capable of almost four times the typical highway speed limit.

I stamp on the accelerator. There's a moment's pause as the turbos spool up to power. Then, like a match igniting gunpowder, a flash and a boom. The entire front of the car lifts.
I slam the gears into second, then third. There's a tingling at the nape of my neck. A sense of displacing air, space and reality.

The runway is crisscrossed by black skid marks left by jumbo jet landings that seem to streak toward me as I land-speed over the wide runway. Then they, too, disappear. Number markers from one to ten are on the side of the tarmac.

At the halfway mark, not even looking at the speedometer, I let off the accelerator, step on the brake lightly and then much harder. I'm almost disappointed when I stop and find the runway still continues on for quite a distance.

The Alpha has a lot more to give. I look at my top speed on the VBOX then turn around and cruise slowly back the way I've come. My heartbeat is fairly steady. In some 24 seconds, I've travelled from zero to 344kmh.

Nissan GT-R/AMS Alpha 12
Engine: 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-6
Power: 1119kW
Torque: 1363Nm
Transmission: Six-speed dual-clutch automated transmission.
0-100kmh: 2.4 seconds.

Lighter Nissan Pathfinder

New Nissan Pathfinder
NEW PATHFINDER: Nissan's crossover has gone to a unibody.

Nissan has revealed the production version of its 2013 Pathfinder.

The new SUV moves from body-on-frame to monocoque construction, shaving several hundred kilos off its weight.

It will be powered by a V6 mated with a CVT, which is expected to boost fuel economy by 2 per cent compared with the outgoing model with a V6.

Nissan says the Pathfinder will feature four-wheel-drive. As the platform is linked to an Infiniti model we think it will offer a diesel too.

Hybrid possibility for next Nissan GT-R

ELECTRICITY BOOST?: Nissan is believed to be considering a hybrid option for its GT-R supercar.

Nissan looks set to tweak the look and performance of its GT-R supercar next year, and could eventually switch to a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain.

The company is said to be planning a significant 2013 makeover for the car in a bid to keep it fresh ahead of an all-new model that was originally scheduled for 2015, but is now more likely to be pushed back to 2018.
US website insideline.com reports that GT-R chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno and his team are closely watching the development of the next Honda NSX, which will use a mid-mounted V6 supplemented by three electric motors – one for the dual-clutch transmission and two more to send torque to the front wheels, improving handling.

A test version of the NSX, which is expected to be released in 2015, is said by Honda insiders to have lapped the famed Nurburgring race track faster than a GT-R.

Porsche will also use hybrid technology on its forthcoming 918 Spyder, which is expected to sprint to 100kmh in less than three seconds, but also deliver Toyota Prius-rivalling fuel efficiency.

While Honda hasn't released power figures for the NSX, Porsche says the 918's combination of a 4.6-litre V8 with two electric motors fitted front and rear will develop a total power output of 575kW and torque of 750Nm.

They're likely to be enticing figures for Nissan, with the GT-R currently outputting a meagre-by-comparison 404kW and 628Nm in return for average official fuel use of 11.7L/100km.

Nissan says the current GT-R will already hit 100kmh in three seconds, although Fairfax Media's performance testing indicates this is closer to 3.5 seconds in real-world conditions.

It's unknown at this stage whether Nissan would attempt to develop a petrol-electric drivetrain using the existing twin-turbo V6 engine, which could be finalised within the next few years, or whether it would build such an engine from scratch for inclusion in the all-new 2018 model.

The 2013 update is expected to include a significant performance tweaks and a cosmetic upgrade that is rumoured to include the front bumper and headlights but not the main body panels.
